Handheld Photosynthetic Activity Meter – Dualex

Dualex is a cutting-edge device designed to measure the chlorophyll and polyphenol content in plant leaves. Using advanced optical sensor technology, it allows for simple, rapid, and non-destructive measurement of chlorophyll, flavonols, and anthocyanins.

Chlorophyll Measurement: Chlorophyll plays a crucial role in photosynthesis and overall plant development. Dualex measures chlorophyll by analyzing the light transmitted through the leaf at specific wavelengths, providing the absolute chlorophyll content in µg/cm².

Unique Combination – Three Key Parameters with One Measurement: With just one measurement, Dualex not only captures the chlorophyll content but also measures flavonols and anthocyanins. Flavonols are primarily synthesized after light exposure and serve as indicators of the plant's light interaction history. Both flavonols and anthocyanins are polyphenols known for their antioxidant properties, helping to reduce cell damage and inflammation. These compounds also contribute to cardiovascular health and may lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

Flavonol and Anthocyanin Measurement: Dualex measures flavonols and anthocyanins by analyzing their effect on chlorophyll fluorescence. Using different light wavelengths to excite chlorophyll, the device captures fluorescence and calculates the results, presenting flavonol and anthocyanin content in relative absorbance.

NBI® – Nitrogen Balance Index: Chlorophyll is often used as an indicator of plant nitrogen status. However, extensive research has shown that polyphenols, particularly flavonols, also serve as reliable indicators of nitrogen status. The NBI® (Nitrogen Balance Index) combines chlorophyll and flavonol data into a single value, offering a more accurate reflection of plant nitrogen levels. This index is less sensitive to environmental variations (leaf age, thickness, etc.) compared to chlorophyll measurements alone.
